The Atoms Family focused on creating a unique model of an atom, based on an element that represents you and your family. We also worked on a writing piece, where we described our families in a scientific, metaphoric, and cultural way.
In The Atoms Family, for the most part it was an individual project. I personally took charge of my work, and kept track of my deadlines. I feel that I was very efficient with beginning and finishing my work in a timely manner, yet making sure my best work was being put into it. I would say that I was very independent throughout this project, since I used my own ideas and creativity to come up with individual ideas. I took others critique into consideration, but didn’t make it so it wouldn’t represent me and my personality.
Throughout this project, I worked sufficiently and specifically demonstrated my work ethic skills when working on my atom. I chose to base my atom off of the Bohr model, and chose the element Carbon. I was very responsible with my atom, and actually finished it way before the deadline. Instead of meeting the bare minimum, I went above and beyond my own standards to make it unique and fascinating. I decided to put yarn around parts of my atom to give it a decorative aspect and make sure it wasn’t too plain.
For the class values, I demonstrated responsibility by completing my atom way in advance. I completed it in the first couple of days, which left me with tons of time to work on other parts of the project for the remainder of time. Respect was also a major aspect of this project, as for everyone's work was out in the open. The work could easily be destroyed if someone was disrespectful, or careless. I made sure to be gentle with the atoms if I had to move them, or to put mine on the shelf in the classroom.
I was unable to make it to the mini exhibition, but I am proud of the work i completed throughout ‘The Atoms Family’ project. My SCM writing turned out really well; i added details that made all the difference. Also, I think my atom was unique and creative. I made it colorful, and different from the rest. As a grade, I would give myself an A+ for the effort i put into my work. In conclusion, this project was a great way to branch out to explore creativity, and a way to incorporate art into class work.
