The Mythological Mobile Project we created Mobiles that were based off of mythologies that come from different parts of the world.
For this project, I was in a group with Kelly and Julian. For the most part I feel like the three of us worked pretty well together throughout the creation of our mobile. We never really worked together before this project so this partnership was new, but in a good way! I would say that we all got work done pretty efficiently, and all of our strengths combined together created a nice balance. We did not have any struggles with compromising, since we all had very similar ideas for what our mobile was going to look like. I contributed to the group during the entire project, mainly by keeping our stuff organized and also painting some of our panels. I think that I could grow as a group member in terms of procrastination. Some of the time I would put off the work that we needed to do for our mobile by saying that we could just do it the next day, when really I was just putting a heavier workload on myself which would later lead to stress.
During this project in Humanities I mainly learned mostly about my country Japan. Most of the information I learned was while I researched for the country presentation, and giving the actual presentation also helped me fully grasp the new information. I learned about Japan’s culture, rituals, religions, and events that shaped large parts of history. I knew a little bit of information about Japan before we began researching, but this presentation really gave me a better understanding. I also really enjoyed reading Eurydice during the beginning of the project time period. The book was very interesting, and I found a lot of style in the way it was written by the author.
I think I learned the most from Physics class during the Mythological Mobile project. Torque was something that caused me a lot of stress and confusion when we were first learning it, but later I began to understand it. It did take me awhile but once I grasped it, it felt so great! Almost the entirety of this project consisted of math and physics thinking, from weighing the panels, to finding the missing weight of the mobile, and creating our torque diagrams. I would not say that I am an expert at torque just quite yet, but I am definitely improving by each problem we do!
Engineering also played a very important role in our mobiles. The first step we took in engineering class was creating a rough draft of what we were planning for our mobile to look like, and this really helped my group and I brainstorm. We were able to try different designs before picking the one that we liked most and would look best on the final draft. It was also very helpful when we did critique sessions in engineering class. My group got mostly positive feedback which was nice, but also some critique that would help us improve our mobile!
