Model United Nations
The purpose of MUN is to give students a real world opportunity and teach them how the United Nations functions. It is a way to learn the tactics of debate and use knowledge to make educated opinions. Participating in the conference has been a influential experience, I have walked away knowing more about each of the topics I’ve debated about each year. Throughout all four years of MUN, this year has been my favorite. I was in the Philosophy debate and played the role of a deceased Islamic philosopher. This debate was much more entertaining than the past years, it was easy to engage in and pay attention. Last year was also enjoyable, I debated in the Space Civilization conference. Different debates can be challenging, I find the country debates harder than the character debates. It can also be difficult to talk from a perspective different from your own, especially if the country or person’s views don’t align with your own. From partaking in the conference I have gained leadership, public speaking, and confidence skills. Up until this years debate, I would get nervous to speak and give my speech. This year I felt completely comfortable and giving my speech was no problem whatsoever. A big part of the nerves had to do with being a middle schooler on the younger side of the debate, but this year we were the oldest ones. Overall, MUN has provided me with an amazing experience where I learned many skills.
