The 'Cooked' project consisted of learning certain recipes from chefs, watching Cooked, By Michael Pollan, creating solar ovens, and creating recipes. We learned about light in order to create our solar ovens, and the process was definitely difficult. For the recipes we cooked with our solar oven partners, and a trusted adult. While writing the storybooks, you could choose to do a series of nine poems, a biography, or a fictional story.
My group in the Cooked project was just Luce and me. We are both friends, meaning that some of the time was a little harder than others to concentrate, since we just wanted to talk to each other. Other then this, we did very well in terms of group dynamic. Luce and I both are very creative, so using our creativity and ideas towards our final outcomes benefited us greatly. On the more individual parts of the project, we still guided and critiqued each other to make sure that both of our products were the best that they could be.
Mostly all of our time used in this project was very used effectively and demonstrated our perseverance. My partner and I managed to get everything done on time in the best way possible, without overloading ourselves. We did not give up when our envisioned outcome did not happen as precise as we hoped, and instead proceeded to a different route that would succeed. For example, our solar oven was definitely the most arduous task we had to complete. At times it would break, or the pieces would not fit together correctly, but we kept trying until it worked just right. In terms of written communication, I feel that I gave very helpful, specific, and realistic feedback to my peers to share any suggestions I have.
In the matters of class values, I feel that I demonstrated all of the values very well. I was responsible by completing my recipe way in advance. I choose to do the challenge option, where my partner and I did seperate recipes; we both did two. I worked on this ahead of time before it was due, just so I was sure that’d I’d have enough time to complete the other recipe. I showed grit by working very hard on my photos for the recipes; I cared a lot about them and how they would turn out. Overall, I think that Luce and I did a great job on working with the class values throughout this project.
For the most part, I am proud of all the outcomes for the Cooked project. I would say that my best piece of work from this project is my recipe. I put so much time and effort into it, making sure that every single detail was exactly how I wanted it. The thing that I would like to improve upon next time would be our solar oven, for it did not work as it was intended to. After making it, Luce and I realized how not all of the wood lines were lined up equally, resulting in it not heating correctly. Next time we could take the extra time to make sure that everything is in place, and ready to go. In all, I would grade myself an A for this project. I am satisfied with our work and perseverance, and I believe that we put our best work forward.
