College Road Trip
I went on the college road trip with a mindset that it wasn’t very beneficial, but the experience changed my mind entirely. We visited four colleges, all in different places with varied majors, prices, and programs. We went to two UC schools, UC Santa Barbara and UC Santa Cruz. Then a private religious university, Santa Clara and another public school Cal Poly. It was interesting to see how they all differed and each had individual strengths and weaknesses. My least favorite out of the group was probably UC Santa Barbara, the campus and layout wasn’t my favorite. I’ve always heard it is a substantial school but when I saw it in person it didn’t live up to my expectations. On the other hand, all the other schools were nice and I enjoyed them all. Santa Cruz had a beautiful campus surrounded by sequoia trees which gave it a foresty camp feel. Opposing to this Cal Poly also had an average campus which was based on tech and sports. The amazing D1 sports and top notch professors would make up for the atmosphere.Santa Clara was probably the most eye pleasing one of them all, it had Spanish architecture that reminded me a lot of Stanford. The tours we were given by students at all of these schools were very informative, and they touched on topics that intrigued me to each school.
Altering from my opinions prior to this trip, seeing these schools intrigued me to college in California. Although the nice food courts and pretty campuses, these schools could not be a possibility to me since they didn’t have the majors I want. Cal Poly has the number one entrepreneur program in the Nation, but they didn’t have any dance programs. Its a unique request to business major and dance professionally, but I think the east coast might better support my appeal.
